They lie

I stood in the city of bronze and the sky was blue. Everything was shining in the sun, the air fresh and salty of the nearby sea, gulls shrieking their songs as I wandered through the streets. Everything was new and fascinating, I soaked in everything that was said to me and did everything I was told.
One day they told me that I couldn´t stay, that I have to walk up to the mountains and find myself like so many before. There were three paths, a solid path of stone leading in the hills, a dark path of silver leading into the first mountains.
And the golden way, shiny leading up to the highest peak above the clouds, it is told that the wonders of the world are waiting there; so I ran because I had no idea.
I stand at the edge of the world and the sky is black. The world is silent, the strong icy wind blows the stink of a thousand rotten corpses into my face. My body is scarred, my heart bleeding, my soul aching through the walk up here, full of rocks and fights. Metal has leaded the way and my blade has fulfilled his purpose more than necessary, hurting not just my enemies; now dripping blood into the fresh fallen snow and not only my own.
Several years have passed and nothing has changed. I grew older and the world grew darker. I still stand at the edge of the world and enjoy staring into eternity by the time a soft whisper reminds me of life.
´What are you doing here? You should be up there, not staring down. It was hard, but look at you; you´re strong, you´re intelligent and isn´t it a good feeling to look down at those people who didn´t make it? You´ve come so far, why give up now? Look ahead and not back.´
So I turn around to that shiny golden path leading into the clouds where the wonders of the world lie. I slowly start to walk.
