Keeps

The old key keeps
Its place amongst the others on the ring
I guess I just couldn't bring myself
to press the metal open
And push it free,
Throw it away
or put it somewhere I can't feel or see.
Even though the house is no longer ours
Outside unfamilar cars parked and
The dark no longer feels the same above the roof
(It's strange how a house almost has its own name for night)
It keeps itself hanging on tight
As if its a key of the mind that from
time to time I can feel in my hand
And despite the ticking of this clock
Still manage to unlock
And for more than a minute
Step back
Just like that....

I've been in this position.
I've been in this position. It's so hard to let go sometime. I loved our old house. and much enjoyed this.
