Am I less Welsh?

Houseflies dive and buzz circling
The lights of the Pen-y-Bryn Arms stage,
Celtic cutlery set out neatly adorn the tables
It's open mike night at the Pen-y-Bryn Arms
The Compere suited and booted stands ready,
His Francis and Francis suit catching the light,
Cawl, Bara Brith, a bottle of Glyndwr White
An impeccable taste for our Compere supreme
As he compliments this Celtic rush of Bards,
I watch as he caresses the Glyndwr White bottle
In this Mid-Wales Tafarn, Pen-y-Bryn
Welsh readings come one after another
Til these Welsh bards hazed from mead and beer
Droop and doze from their many recitations
I order a pint of Blorenge Golden Ale in English
The Landlord ignores my request so
Once more I ask for a pint of Blorenge
We don't speak that "Heathen English" here
The landlords face glowing blazing red
I shake my head as I walk out of the Pen-y-Bryn Arms
I speak no Welsh yet am I less Welsh than him?

That doesn't do the language
That doesn't do the language any good! By all means give a good place to the language and keep English to a minimum at times, but still be polite to those who cannot speak it and show them it makes you more civilized not less! And they should have been impressed that you were apparently enjoying hearing the pieces read though not understanding them. Rhiannon
