Summer Shower

The drooping fuchsias bear the weight of a sunshower,
And tender buds glisten green.
Ladybirds, spot of black on scarlet,
Scurry close to red-brick houses,
Finding shelter beneath overhanging eaves.
Their glossy shell is brittle,
As delicate as the princess fuchsia.
It needs to be protected, from crushing suburban feet.
Yellow and green raincoats, worn by super mums,
Dash with pellucid pearls,
And children, tugging at the full skirt,
Rush through the rain.
