Yorkshire

I wasn’t born in Yorkshire,
It was just a mile outside,
So I wasn’t born a Yorkshireman
It’s a truth I can't abide!
There’s everything in Yorkshire
That a body could desire,
But there’s something about Yorkshire
And it sets my soul on fire.
From Scarborough’s golden beaches
And Whitby’s spooky tales
Across rolling wolds and moorland
It reaches to the dales.
The scenery is stunning
And the folk have left their mark
From ruined ancient castle
To leafy stately park.
The Yorkshiremen who lived here
Have told their tale in stone,
They’ve been proud to say they’re Yorkshire
And to call this land their home.
But it’s really Yorkshire people
Who make Yorkshire home for me,
With their open arms of welcome
And a cup of Yorkshire Tea.
I love my home in Yorkshire
And it’s where I want to be,
Where the rolling green of moorland
Meets the sparkling blue of sea.
