You're probably reading this at the office. How are you hiding it?
An excel spreadsheet minimised in the corner of the screen, ready to be
clicked into action at the first sign of a roving suit? Don't worry,
I'll tell you if I see one coming.
This is the first entry in my ABC diary. I decided to start it on a
Friday, just before lunch, as that was always the best part of my
wage-slave week. The Friday pub lunch. A little oasis of free speech in
the intellectual desert of corporate existence. A sixty minute holiday
from the market-leading, customer-focused, work-smarter-not-harder
world. I bet you can't wait.
What is it going to be today then? A Guinness and Gripe? A Redstripe
and Rant? Vodka with a dash of Vituperation? Off you go then, remember
to log off, and bring up your screensaver. I'm going to sit here and
reminisce for a while. The heady scent of highlighter pens, the gentle
hum of the air conditioning, the sweet high note of the unanswered
phone at the other end of the office&;#8230;&;#8230;.I think I'll
have a drink myself, to memories.
