Dear Betty,

This is the last time I write you a last-time letter tellin' you the things I just can't say to your pretty kisser. Because the last time I wrote you a last-time letter, you said you was helpin' the neighbors welcome home private McManus after his two years of fightin' them Nazi's and you had no confetti, so you shredded my letter in a million bits and tossed it out the window. Remember? At least you put my letter to better use than that other time I wrote you a last-time letter. Remember that? You said you was makin' a cup of tea and toast for the postman and run outta coasters? And then you couldn't read the letter on account of all the tea-stains and butter crumbs he left behind. Them two cent stamps don't grow on trees, you know!

I think you're just plain scared to read them, Betty. Me pourin' out my heart with a number 2 pencil and you entertain' postmen and foot-soldiers with all my unopened letters!

So, Betty, I'm takin' one last crack at writin' you a last-time letter and I mean it this time! Yeah, I know. I said it was the last time the last time, and the time before that, but this time? Cross my heart and call me St. Peter if I'm lyin', I'm keepin' my word. Only this time I'm sayin' what I have to say in a song. I hope you like it. That is if you don't find a hole in your shoe and decide my letter would make a good quick fix.
