FUTURE LOVE

Wide the world and deep the sky,
Tomorrow is as yet -
The Love that I have chosen
Never have I met.
Trembling the leaves as they fall from the tree -
For fear that I ask of them
'Where can he be?'
*
Cold the snow and wet the rain -
Ever and alone;
The Love that I have chosen
Never have I known;
Sighing the south wind, caressing the sun....
For fear that I ask of it
'When will he come?'
*
I follow him; he follows me
Down all the nights and days;
The Love that I have chosen
Has trodden many ways.
Silent the flowers that hang their heads low -
For fear that I ask of them
'Where did he go ?'
*
- - - -Will he fly on wings of silver.
- - - -Ship of silence from the ether;
- - - -Galleon on golden water,
- - - -Always calling from the future;
- - - -Tell me his name.
- - - -Tell me his name!
*
Earthborn man is fickle,
Captive held in time;
The Love that I have chosen
Is not of earthly clime;
Wistful the blossoms that sway on the bough -
For fear that I ask of them
'Where is he now?'
*
Dreamer of the sunrise,
Melancholy mind;
The Love that I have chosen
Yet have I to find;
Soulful his eyes, oh, the one I shall know -
Fear that I find him.......
Oh, kindred soul,
My kindred soul.
