THE MIRROR

See that girl in the mirror there
With the sun in her eyes and the moon on her brow,
Her amber skin, her raven hair -
- - - -Tell me, where is she now?
See that boy in the mirror there
With the spring on the Earth that he's walking upon;
His gentle voice, his flowing hair -
- - - -Tell me, where has he gone?
See them love in the mirror there
With the blue world below and the white sky above;
Bright as the wind, free as the air -
- - - -Tell me, where is that love?
See their child in the mirrored earth,
With ethereal eyes and her pale angel sheen;
Then watch her fade before her birth -
- - - -Show me what might have been.
See the mirror that clouds with time
With a tarnishing eye and a cold shattered heart;
To fragments crumbled past its prime -
- - - -Give me back one small part.
See the pieces now strewn in dust,
For it will not be long before they too have gone;
All of its days so dulled with rust -
- - - -Tell me, what have I done?
- - - -Tell me, tell me - what have I done?
