James Alexander Howard.
It rolls of the tongue like sweet syrup,
Dripping
Like the delicate scent of jasmine on a steaming summer night.
Frothing and creaming,
The innocent bubbles in chocolate milk.
Each consonant chasing every vowel
Laughing in excitement.
They race round and around your tongue
Shyly taking hands on the page like a child,
Sometimes stumbling over itself,
A letter so love drunk that it's stutter grows as mould in its mouth
Taking over its tongue.
Al-Ale-Alexander,
Rolling in the chambers of your throat,
Warm and full.
A wave folding in on itself
Weak with relief as its long journey is ended
And it collapses on the foundering shore, heart pounding;
Home.
