On The Bayou
We lived
In an earthen world.
The myth of things unknown
Each accepted the others ways
As they existed
Not for the profit they brought.
We played by rivers
That had barritone voices
And ran through forests
Of willows that wept
Dragonflies with opal eyes
Sat upon my shoulder
And teased me unmerciafully
Because they could
And I could not
Fly.
