Why have you forsaken me

The father pushes the thorny bushes
aside. To pave the way for his son. Then
the sight is clear. The moonlit bank of a
river. The surrounding trees look surly.
They do not like to be disturbed. The
water is awaiting eagerly. She knows
what is kept inside. Are the two visitors
here to uncover the secret? Frankly, the
preparation was rather hastily. No alarm
was set, they forgot to prepare the bait.
But the father had made his promise. They
would go fishing. The boy shakes with
excitement. Today it will happen. They
put the buckets ready, throw the rods out.
A finite silence follows. The singing of
the reed, the somersaulting of grebes,
the hush of the gray mist on the black
water. The trees, the river and even the
birds know it. Nothing is as it seems when
you see a father and son fishing. When
the sun rises, they pack the stuff, throw
the last bait in the disappointed water.
And drive home. The father is tired.
The son rushes to the attic. He has no
idea what's been going on. He knows he
has been sent to this flat earth. But
furthermore? An assignment? A calling?
