The Birds & The Bees

There was once a man who found himself in the Dust Bowl of California during the Great Depression of 1930. He had served in the Great War of 1918 and when he returned in the roaring 20’s there was not much work to be found for an unskilled hand. The work that he did manage to find was hard labor that paid poorly. His bosses were often unfair and nasty. Life was hard. But now with the economic crash of the Depression there was no work to be found at all. Not even menial labor jobs like in the old days for men like himself. It was hot under the sun so he went and lay down under a big tree. As of late sickness had also taken its toll on his life. He was poor, hungry and starving. His strength was being sapped away day-by-day and inch-by-inch. Soon he would pass away forever it seemed. As he lay there in weakness, illness and hunger he saw a little busy bee buzzing around from flower to flower collecting its daily food and wages for itself. How he wished secretly that he could be just like that busy little bee, zooming around with plenty of work and good wages to be found. With a kind and good boss who would always treat him fairly, not like the children of men. He dreamed his dream of being a hard working little fellow like that busy little bee, always happy and content. Never wanting for anything and living off of the plenty of the land and nature. Then in his lovely little dream he silently slipped away and passed away in peaceful bliss. Some people came and took his body away and buried him in a pauper's grave nearby. Yet in the holy forever after, he did indeed come back as a splendid little bee called Tom the lad. He was always buzzing around collecting food from the beautiful flowers and he always had plenty of work and plenty of rewards from his hard labor. His noble soul was transformed into the tiny loving being of his dying dreams. He would be happy and content for all eternity. Heaven can wait, he said to himself as he flew about in the peace and plenty of the land and nature. His soul was made complete. Blessed is he for he found all his riches in Heaven after all. Just as you sow, so shall you reap.
