Igniting the Ignorant

Where are we headed?
You asked the other day,
said I couldn’t possibly
answer that question,
that maybe I didn’t
want to, why would I?
You stung me
through your sunglasses,
nearly tripped over your
wine glass, as you stood
sighing hopelessly
through pursed, glossy lips.
Crisis ignites the ignorant,
so I told myself,
this virus the ideal excuse
for spouses to blame
one another,
to fail to stick together.
Selfishness unleashed
on the planet, Covid-19
takes hold in each brain,
self-isolated disdain
creates feelings of resentment,
could separate us for good.
Now the street is empty,
no-one looking for another,
or trying to extend
good wishes, instead
scurrying for their cells
to keep the disease at bay.

Great poem! You have found a different angle on the virus crisis. How will this distancing and isolation affect us? You have raised some interesting ideas!
