From birth I was your bastion,
the creature formed from your
flowing blood, made from choices
you made and those before you.
Your firstborn, from an early age
I tried to conform to your vision,
an attempt to meet your demands
head on, to be the boy you dreamt of.
Feeling your guilt, every mistake
I saw you make counterbalanced
my perceived perfection in your
movements, mother magnificent.
From there I was formed, the blur
of the modern world came into view,
and I knew the focal point of existence
was matter torn from matter, my birth.
I screamed into bright light,
tottered freely in the outside
world within parental confines,
though bound loosely, carefree.
Views from tree tops showed me
how small I was, how puny
in the face of the real world
around me, branches embracing.
Miraculously I made it through to
double figures, into high school,
bullied and buffeted after primary
where I had explored my new world,
now suddenly become serious.
