My own Lovey Darling,
Thank you so much for your two letters dearest. I was very very glad to hear that you were feeling so much better. Hope you got my wire, sent to Joey, saying I’d got the money back & plant was running pretty well. I had quite a little trouble getting it to run efficiently – case of more haste less speed. I cleaned up to 330 oz for a 5 day run on ground that the rockers had picked the eyes out
of. The payment was completed the night before last, so the job is safe till August 1, 1923 now. Units are being sold at $10. Ennis had one lump up of 25 oz. But his of course is not rich ground. I started my plant within an hour of his starting up, though I had to shut down again with magazine trouble.
I've put in one visit – a whole day – down at Cons. Investment Co. Couldn't find a colour – that's confidential – but am having them rock steadily for several days & am going down again on Sunday. Just going down to show a foreman the line for the road alongside the Lake. They (Govt) are spending $41,000 on it (6 ft wide) as a pack trail this fall.
Had a cold last 3 days, but it's better today. Coat arrived 2 days ago and a box of clothes today. Haven't opened the latter yet. Thank you very much darling.
By this mail I am sending a Cheque as under to our bank, telling them to notify receipt to you.
Sent from here 27/10/1922 No 120 Cheque date 23/10/22
Signed C M Co. FS Mumson, $116.53
Bank of Montreal, William Lake. Accepted Cheque.
Must hike now dear lambkin. Blackiwig & Buggins in great form. Latter loves Eric. God bless you dearest heart. Love to Joey, Una and everyone.
For always you adoring Mark

What an odd way of life! the ordinary detail makes you realise these are basically real letters, ordinary people sticking with it.
Couldn't find a colour para 3 – is that to do with finding out how much gold he'd found? Rhiannon

It's a real challenge that he's up against, I think it shows in this letter. I can imagine how busy life must be from the hurried fashion with which he writes this letter.
Another interesting insight into his work.
Jenny.
