Death of Unidentified Woman in Marple
Police are asking the public to help identify a woman who was
killed by a hit and run driver on Stockport Road in Marple on Friday
evening, August 31st. The woman's face was badly damaged by the
accident - taking a photograph of her body would be of no use.
However, the police artist has drawn a sketch, based on what he could
from the body, so if anyone has any idea who this woman was, please
contact P.C. Reilly at the Marple police station.
The woman was approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a slim
build. She had long straight grey hair, and wore glasses. She was
approximately 70 years old. Her clothing was old but of good quality,
and she was wearing grey sweat pants, a navy blue jumper
and a light beige jacket. Her shoes were well worn, indicating that she
probably walked a lot.
Police are also asking anyone who was anywhere near Station
Road at approximately 7 p.m. who might have seen a car driving at
speed. “We have no witnesses to the accident at the moment - but the
car must have been driving at least 50 miles an hour to have left the
impact on the body which was seen,” they said.
Someone somewhere must know who this woman was. For the
moment, the body is labelled as Jane Marple (because she would've
been a Jane Bloggs - the identification that is given to unknown
victims - but there had already been one at Stepping Hill Hospital that
day, so she became Jane Marple - as she was killed in Marple.) The
police presume she lived in Marple - as there were no car keys found
on or near her body. So would everyone in the Marple area - and in
particular in the north section near the town centre - recall if they
have any neighbours who would fit this description whom they have
not seen in the last day or two. If you live next to someone who fits this
description, call in and make sure she is all right - so the police can
eliminate her from their enquiries.

Since she was a loner,
Since she was a loner, perhaps she wouldn't be missed. I wonder who ran her down - suspicious?

A famous name, Jane Marple! I wonder whether her neighbours knew about her enough to think about her. Rhiannon
