Actress

The actress doesn’t act
Too preoccupied
With the political play of theatre
The faces of the players,
The sexist magazines
Left, on the coffee tables
Of left wing theatre companies,
The trap doors
Of mundane employment
And selling and selling
And turning up on operatic soaps
Too full of oil
For her to bathe her talented skin in,
The light is too dim
To see herself shine
So she never steps on
Always in the shadow
With a frown
As heavy as a spotlight.
