Dust and Sunbeams
Dust and sunbeams fill the room,
Captivating, light in gloom,
I should be concentrating on your face
But your beauty has been overshadowed,
Your cautious smiles are a waste -
Dust and sunbeams seem
More important than the words you say,
Your expectant silences
Drift
In between the particles,
Lost in the space between us
Where 'if' and 'only' hang,
Trapeze artists strung on lines of sunlight.
I'm not listening to your questions -
I already know our answers.
Dust and sunbeams:
More important than last chances.
