Snow in May
Rain comes and goes but never lasts,
Falls like weapons, short, sharp, fast,
Wind strips blossom from the hawthorn trees,
Snow in May without a freeze,
Smells like summer's been stillborn,
Standing by the soaking, fresh-mown lawn
In my winter coat.
The sun has been packed away,
Stowed in a box of clouds for a nicer day,
This stormy weather cut to fit my mood,
Clever tailor watched me brood,
The weeks flash by, lightning soon
I witness the birth of another full moon
On a cold world.
