Rainbow Magic
Walking in the rain
Damp gets under my skin
I'm cold but exultant,
Lonely cloud on a hill
And slowly, slowly,
The clouds creep across the sky,
Spilling sunlight through the gaps
And across the fields,
My evening shadow falls
Across the wet grass,
Black and strong and dark
And still the rain falls,
It's been years
Since I've seen a rainbow.
I turn, my eyes raking the sky
And then, colour fills my vision,
Wonder brims,
As the arc of light grows across the sky,
First one side, then the other,
Slowly arching upwards til they join together
And then leave their echo,
A paler version on the outside.
The pair shine,
Impossibly bright
Against the rain clouds behind,
And I stand and stare
Until they fade from sight.
