Still Present
Jennifer Pickup 05.04.2023
They say that time will heal the loss,
What they don’t tell you is the cost –
How memories will start to fade,
How the past becomes cast in shade.
Sometimes I can’t recall your face…
I search in each familiar place,
Your voice I used to know so well
But what it sounds like I can’t tell.
Have I blocked out my thoughts of you?
Has grief told lies about what’s true?
My heart turned dark and shrivelled up?
My mind played tricks and run amuck?
Still present – that’s where you should be,
Still living in my memory,
But time has taken heed and now
I’ve lost a piece of me somehow.
