We Stand Here Face to Face

We stand here face to face
We stand here face to face, your nose an inch above my own
Your hands wrapped around my waist, holding me so close
But as I stare at you, the tears begin to flow
I hold you to my heart but I can feel we stand apart
And the distance starts to show as I look up at you.
I can see tomorrow lurking in your eyes
But I can't see my own reflection there,
And as the light begins to change, it grows harder to define
Exactly why I'm no longer welcome here.
I see dreams, the dreams you've planned out on your own,
The dreams we used to share - you've stolen some of mine,
And as you bend to kiss me, you whisper something in my ear -
It used to be sweet nothings as your lips lingered there,
Your fingers twisting in my hair&;#8230;
So darling, have you ceased to care?
Is this how love dies in the end? Tell me it wasn't all pretend,
That you loved me back, even for a second&;#8230;
But as you bent your head, you said, so quietly
"I don't love you these days, the way I used to do"
But did you tell the truth, or was the truth a lie?
You used to tell me love would never die,
That it went on beyond the grave
And every minute that we shared was a memory to save.
You've left tracks across my heart; you take the lead in my
dreams
And however far apart tomorrow we will be,
A part of you will always linger here, somewhere deep inside of
me,
A chord that you once plucked echoes in my soul
And every inch of me you touched, your finger traces know,
And however much it hurts, however deep the wounds
As you tear your heart from me, a part of you stays here,
A part of you stays here with me, forever here you see.
Today went by too soon and tomorrow is too near
I wonder, will your face begin to fade with every passing year,
Will I forget the colour of your eyes, how your skin felt touching
mine?
Will every moment shared be lost to me, or will there be
Things that I will not forget, will you haunt my dreams
As I lie alone in bed, and what will I do now,
Now that you won't be here with me, who will hold me as I sleep,
Who will love me now, my dear, now that you are lost,
And how long will it be until you are really gone,
How much time will I endure, and how will I move on?
So let me steal a kiss, a keepsake for my heart
I breathe deeply in as we slowly draw apart,
Remembering your smell, the way your features are,
The face I know so well, that time will blur and mar,
And as you walk away, my eyes follow your gaze
As you turn to look back once, and then turn away again,
And I whisper goodbye - a word you will never hear,
It leaves my lips so fast, as you did too, my dear,
And however well time heals, even if I don't remember you,
I will always hear those words, in my ear they echo on,
"I don't love you these days, the way I used to do"&;#8230;
Because darling, don't you see? I could have said the same to you.
