We used to walk here
I remember - we used to walk here,
The pebbles crunching beneath our feet
Like giants eating biscuits,
Washed down with gulps of sea.
It was difficult - the walking, not the love;
The love was easy, caught between us as we stumbled,
Clinging, arms entwined&;#8230;
You can still feel it in the photographs:
We used to capture moments of each other -
Laughing, young moments, happiness so complete
I tell you, you can see it -
We used to think that was enough.
Today, I walk alone, clutching at memories
Like a drowning man does rope
But I'm not laughing now
And I'm no longer young,
Happiness is something other people have.
And love?
Yes, I remember that.
