For the moment

This is the day and I'm living
as hard as I can,
making every second count
because each one is worth a million,

yes, this is the day -
you're mine for the moment -
tonight is the night
and I'm living only for it,
staring into your eyes,
sharing a secret -
completeness stained with sadness
as I read what I see there,
because it's temporary.

I feel no surprise -
it's as if I always knew
that we didn't have tomorrow,
that we only had this short time - you won't stay mine
and I know, with the daylight, I'll be alone again
but I don't care - I'm not going to waste
any more of tonight thinking in the If-only way -
it's alright - there's no need to explain
the one tear that I shed, representing my pain -
as you smile, I smile back, smiling into this night
that we both have,
and I let go
of everything but now, right here in the moment,
living as hard as I can,
before daylight annuls this.
