Unacknowledged Legislators
By
Jack Hughes
Unacknowledged legislators crave recognition
In slams and on stages. Leaving our marks
On the processed wood pulp of leatherette
Bound pages. With masonic precision we
Carve our leaving cards into the granite of
Our own monuments and process and pen
A hoped for literary immortality . Romantic, metaphysic,
Concrete ,agit-prop; nuanced critiques of all
That is myopic, grand words worth as much
as a picture. Subverting and forming and
experimenting with structure, irony, parody,
Satire, the cold light of pathetic fallacy. Searching for metaphor
And simile like a man inflating a burst balloon.
We are the unacknowledged legislators
Waiting to be acknowledged.
