What was heartland is ravaged,
The cities are all savage
And workers can’t get by on pay.
The new thing’s just in,
Pulled fresh out the bin,
With a ribbon to make it okay.
We dress in trash and eat it too,
There’s nothing else for us to do,
The forest is paved, our needs are met,
I wonder what’s on the internet?
We sit and stare, but do not see,
Our nation’s become a travesty.
we’re fine, dandy, content, we’re cool,
Elated with being societal fools.
America first, America’s best,
Lies sown deep in every breast.
We let them lay and sow their seed,
We won’t accept our dearest need.
Fill the libraries! Fill the streets!
Get off the couch and on your feet!
Take back your lives, get a grip!
Let’s right this tilted, sinking ship!
“Hey sweetie, America’s got Talent is on," my young girlfriend said, appearing in the lighted doorway. "Oh, what’re you writing?”
I stare at the screen with a frown before taking off my glasses and pinching my brow.
“Nothing anyone will ready anyway. Let’s watch Tv.”

I liked this. The poetry part
I liked this. The poetry part had a solid rhyming structure and got its point across nicely, and the prose at the end underscored it.
