A New Year’s tribute to Robert Burns
Whist yer blathering bonny lassie
Standing on yon kitchen chair
Wi yer skirts above yer ankles
What are ye afraid of there?
Surely not the timrous beastie
Nibbling crumbs upon the floor
Cowrin soon will flee for safety
Bickering brattle through the door.
Welcome hame yer Tam O Shanter
Sobered by a fearsome sight
Having been pursued by demons
From the graveyard in the nicht.
On Meg his mair who at a canter
Oe’r Brig O Doone from witch’s wrath
Past the keystane They can’t follow
Seized her tail and tore it off.
Leavin on the grey mares rump
Nothin but a wee bit stump
Brawly brought her maister hame
To Kate his sulky sullen dame
Come sit ye both doon roun the board
A feast , the best ye can afford
With neaps and tatties piping hot
And whisky gravy i n yon pot
And chieftain of the pudding clan
A Haggis fit for ony man
Washed down with John Barleycorn
A treat lo’ed by all Scotsmen born
So gies a hand my trusty frère
And there’s a hand of mine
We’ll taak a right gud willie-wought
For the sake of auld lang syne.
