A Winters Tale

~~A WINTERS TALE
As wintery day gives way to wintery night
Black interlacing silhouettes of trees
Stand skeletal against the fading light
Waft gently in the frosty evening breeze.
The rooftops, chimneys steeples of the town
Stand stark against the leaden starless sky.
The pale and weakly sun goes slowly down
A cold and frosty night is drawing nigh.
Well clad against the biting icy air
Folk hurry to the warmth of hearth and home
Snow flurries caught within the streetlights glare’
Settle upon rooftop, tower and dome.
And soon the streets are clad in glistening white.
The walls and hedges topped with virgin snow.
And people trudging homeward through the night.
Find battling the elements is slow.
A cheerful glow from many a comfy room
Quickens the travellers journey through the night
Pierces the dark and penetrates the gloom.
Until, at last, his dwelling comes in sight. Comfortably seated in his favourite chair
Toasting his toes before a blazing fire
Sipping a warming drink, he’ll soon retire
Snuggling beneath the bedclothes, He won’t care.
However much the wind and icy blast
Rages outside his warm and cosy nest
For he is in his sanctuary at last.
Here he is safe and warm. Here he can rest.

Lovely poem John, made me
Lovely poem John, made me feel cold just reading it - that biting, icy, air is a great line. Good luck in the competition.
