In Nativitate Domini

In a silence so deep it were
As though a thousand, thousand angels
Trumpeted "Glory to God on High".
In a stillness so profound it were
As though all creation in harmony
Sang of mercy nigh.
The waters of the new creation broke;
Flooded the world with the light of hope.
Before shepherds, throned in poverty,
Lies God's own Son, new born.
Death destined, through love in man's estate,
Eternal promise cloaked in frailty.
Star drawn Seers lay down gifts;
Wisdom, wealth and sacrifice.
No power but by heaven sent
Life's life redeemed in humility.
