So here we are, the guvnor ( Charles 3rd) has now gone, so we have to find Charles 4th.
To say we have been "Unlucky" with cats is an understatement. But my wife was adamant, we have to have a cat!
We discovered Charles 4th at a pet shop about 10 miles away. It wasn't planned, we went to get some plants in a garden centre and found they had a small pet shop in the grounds. There, no more than 8 weeks old was a lovely tabby male cat. We had to have him. This would be our Charles 4th.
One small detail that we were not aware of was that he was totally deaf!
It took us quite a while to discover his afliction, we would call him, he wouldn't come, we would shake his food bowl, he wouldn't come, no worry he was still young, cats are funny things they have a mind of their own! Its just the way he is, stubborn, independant, all these things I welcomed. He was going to be the new Charles 3rd, my hero!
Didn't quite work out that way. We thought maybe he was a bit simple, a bit backward, basically a thick cat! So we took him to the vets. Thats when he gave us the news. YOUR CATS DEAF!!!!!
We loved him, so we kept him. Now there are a few problems with a deaf cat, when you want them to come indoors for dinner you have to shout.
So there you are in the garden shouting "CHARLIE, DINNERS READY" over and over again. Neighbours start to think that you are mad. "What the fuck is he shouting for" they think.
Also if indoors, he decides to climb up the curtains ( as cats do), there you are shouting at the top of your voice " GET THE FUCK DOWN". Once again the neighbours......
We tried drops, then some kind of cream, then an operation. Nothing worked. He was as deaf as deaf could be.
He was now the opposite to Charles 3rd, he never bought me a present, no magpies, squirrels or mice. He simply never caught anything, cos he never heard them. He saw them that was for sure but he didn't realise how much noise he was making as he "crept" up on them. So they either ran or flew away!
No suprise then when he never heard the truck coming!
That was the end of Charles 4th.
He was 3 when he left this earth, very quietly!
