flapjack pigeons

flapjack pigeons
a thin, grey lunch break
inside a great, glass greenhouse:
my numb fingers,
break a Bakewell tart
flavoured flapjack,
into beak-sized bites,
a carpet of bobbing pigeons before me.
one pigeon winks at me,
(not saucy, just friendly)
white as snow, she is
like a dove of peace.
outside, the snow
is falling
to a shivering minus two.
and i guess, despite the feathers,
this icy weather, leaves them
hungry too.
