i open my curtains at night, for the stars
this searing saturation
of summer light
corrodes concentration
conquers promise
shrieks into every nerve and every bone;
my marrow, interrupted
all windows curtained now
since that first fiery day in June,
remaining so
until i sense an attempt at twilight
each dark is pathetic;
peppered with sunlight holes
producing only a flabby
impotent night
lacking in meaning
this is the time of year
when stars are made smaller
pushed from sight
by a savage horizon
that refuses to give
the seven sisters muted;
denied their emphasis
until the embrace of the equinox
when true dark is returned
the part of me fraught with hope
only opens my curtains at night,
for the stars
