olivia ♥ jesus
you approach shyly, in a pleated skirt
too sensible for summer; too sensible
for what crosses my mind.
your perfect teeth and sky blue eyes
chaperoned by a tight,
unforgiving church pamphlet.
“Do you know Jesus?” you ask, in a voice
that comes like a secret waterfall.
“I’ve heard of him,” i reply, “that’s enough for me.”
i smile slowly, unwound like silk.
you hand me the pamphlet;
the usual garish cartoons and relentless rhetoric.
i watch you go, the breeze meddling with the divinity of your hair,
as you dissolve, into a crowd of Tuesday heathens.
what a waist.
what a waste,
that jesus is the only one
to know your embrace.
