Chasing Butterflies

When we were three.., no perhaps four
Our world we sought to explore
Over the hills into the trees
Down to the pond on hands and knees
Fishing for tadpoles
We climbed trees and played our games
Lunched on fruit with juicy flavored names
Then with mud streaked feet and tresses
We’d ride atop tree branch horses
Till mama called us home
Down the hillside on cardboard slides we’d glide
Through tall grass chasing butterflies
At less than five and truly alive
Yes, then I was HAPPY!
