THE HOT COFFEE
BURNS MY LIPS
WHILE MY FINGERS DEEP
IN BUTTERED BREAD
AND CRISPY HAM,
LINGER ON THE SOFT
AND TENDER CRUST.
IT'S ALMOST LUST!
AND MY HEART POUNDS
WILDLY IN MY CHEST.
'IT'S FOR THE BEST'
I TELL MYSELF,
STIRRING THE BROWN, HOT,
AND STEAMING DRINK
FLAVOURED WITH RHUM.
AND THE PHONE RINGS.
HURTING MY EARS,
ALMOST A STING,
A PIERCING SOUND.
THE CRY OF FUTURES DOOMED:
YOUR LIFE AND MINE,
ALMOST IN SHREDS.
I LEAVE IT RING
UNTIL IT BRINGS
INTO MY MEMORY
THE WORST NIGHTMARE
I HAPPEN TO REVIVE.
AND FOR MY LIFE
IN THAT ONE MOMENT I DECIDE
TO LET YOU GO.
I TAKE THE BEVERAGE, NOW COLD
WITH CRISPED HANDS,
AND HOLDING BACK MY TEARS,
I DRINK WITHOUT PASSION...
AND BOLD.
