LAST DAY
JOHN LENNON
IT'S COLD AND IT'S DARK.
THE DAY HAS BEEN LONG.
HE'S WRITING A SONG.
THE TUNE IN HIS MIND
HE WHISTLES ALONG.
THE NIGHT COLD AND DAMP
IS FREEZING HIS HEART.
A FRIENDLY STREET LAMP
WASHING AWAY ALL FEARS,
THAT IT'S NOT SHEDDING TEARS,
HOW HE'LL GET OTHER START.
HE NEEDS SOMETHING NEW,
ADVENTURE AND GOALS.
HAS FORGOTTEN THE 'WHY'S',
IN THIS SILENCE OF GOLD.
IN THIS BLINDNESS, THIS DEW.
HE REMEMBERS HE SAID
'MAYBE I'LL BE POPPED AWAY
BY A LOONY, A SHAKE OFF
OF THIS WORLD IN A SWAY..
NOT SO BAD !...IF I MAY...
SOMETHING HOT HITS HIS HEART.
WITH HIS ARMS WIDE APART,
HE RECEIVES SUCH A BLOW.
BLOOD WOULD BLEND WITH THE SNOW.
HE UNDERSTANDS AT THAT TIME,
THAT HE'S LEAVING, HE'S FREE.
NO MORE TROUBLES OR STRIFE.
YES! HE'S LEAVING HIS LIFE
WITH GREAT PARSIMONY.
