Beach

Beach
Grey sky, grey pebbles, grey surf.
The sea sinks into the dark clouds and hugs them close.
Seagulls swoop into the murk
Searching for sustenance amongst the stockpot of seaweed and crooked twigs.
Rocks crunch beneath my feet and I kick them away.
Suffocating bastards.
The waves slash against the rusty girders
That carry the pier into the distance.
I turn my back and walk away
From the smiles, soggy chips and out of date pop music.
I sit and clasp my knees to my chest,
Watching the sailboat moving towards freedom.
I stare as the rolling water shoves the vessel
Out towards the deep abyss.
I sigh and lay on my back staring at the sky.
Drizzling dust descends into my eyes
And I force myself to keep them open,
To keep looking through the pain.
Staring with bloodshot eyes.
