12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS (and not a partridge to be found)

Days till Christmas: Twenty-four
Time to open an advent door,
The door that's marked with number one
The Yuletide countdown has begun.
Days till Christmas: just one score
(Twenty that meant in days of yore),
Traditions and memories we hold dear
Will play their part again this year.
Days till Christmas: seventeen
The house bedecked in red and green,
The tree is lit and gaudy dressed
Just like last year, this year's best.
Days till Christmas: thirteen just
To send out cards is now a must,
I'd like some help from Santa's elves
(The stamps at least now lick themselves.)
Days till Xmas: only nine
'Neath the tree which gift is mine?
Pick one up for a crafty shake
Carefully, carefully lest it break.
Days to Christmas: down to eight
For the day I cannot wait,
I pray that Santa got my list
(I pray that nought by him is missed)
Days till Christmas: now just seven
This time of year is sweet tooth heaven,
Chocolate, candy, delicious mince pies
(There goes my "six-pack" along with my thighs).
Days till Christmas: merely four
Off we go to the grocery store,
Turkey, sausage, stuffing and sprouts
A big enough bird? I have my doubts.
Days till Christmas: three (I think)
I must have had too much to drink,
Egg nog? Wassail? Warm mulled wine?
(I think you'll find the lager's mine!)
Days till Christmas: only two
For now there's little left to do,
Time stands still, the clock ticks slow
(Time to stand 'neath mistletoe!)
Days till Christmas: just one more
Open the final advent door,
I'll sleep tonight against my will
(There's a kid inside me still).
Days till Christmas: the day is here!
Raise your glass, be of good cheer,
Love and gifts, great eats as well
I so love Christmas (or couldn't you tell?)
