CHRISTMAS DAY

Christmas Day is here again
Goodwill is due to all good men,
To women too, the young as well;
Joy rings out like a Yuletide bell.
A church bell chimes atop its spire
Carol's are sung by an earthly choir,
The turkey is crammed in the oven to roast
Soon to be carved by the slightly drunk host.
The host of presents which sat 'neath the tree
Have all been opened with childlike glee,
Gifts exchanged, and kisses too
With hugs that say "Happy Christmas to you".
Christmas dinner on the table is set
(Hope the turkey's not dry nor the sprouts too wet),
The bird is delicious, the veg is just fine
I see empty glasses, uncork more wine!
Glasses are raised, to the season we drink
Into the sofa we wearily sink,
Soon it is midnight and Christmas has passed
They'll soon be another, time moves so fast.
* * * * *
Christmas time has come and gone
A goodwill beacon briefly shone,
To men and women, the young as well
Joy rang out like a Yuletide bell.
