Christmas Eve (At Last it's Here…..)

At last it's here, that time of year
That many revere and more hold dear,
For more than other holidays
These "hollydays" are jolly days,
When boughs bedecked in glass bulbs bright
Bejewel the night with lustrous light,
And bows and baubles both in and out
"Happy Christmas!" heartily shout.
In an inn rowdy revellers raise
A toast in praise of Yuletide ways,
While in a church a choir sings
Of a blessed babe, of a king and kings.
In the street when meanderers meet
They smile a while and graciously greet,
A friend or a foreigner simply the same
And "Merry Christmas" impartial proclaim.
At Ho-Ho-Home on Christmas Eve
My most magical memories, I truly believe,
In the mind of the man just as much as the boy's
Were garnered midst garlands and tinsel and toys.
I still peek at presents placed under the tree
Pleasantly pleased there are plenty for me,
Rapt by red wrapping and rather keen
To glean how mean (or NICE !!) I've been.
Tomorrow our tummies take on the test
Of the mightiest meal to make and digest,
We'll savour the flavour of foods that we favour
For Christmas of course is forever the day for
A spread of sprouts and spuds and such,
Of turkey and gammon, as ever too much;
With egg nog and Yule log, with cake and mince pies
(We'll pile on the pounds and react with surprise).
Yes it's here, that time of year
That many revere and more hold dear,
For more than other holidays
These "hollydays" are jolly days.
A season for getting and more so giving
Mayhap for forgiving and maybe for living
A life full of loving, a kindlier kind,
Where caring and sharing loom large in the mind.
With all this said it's time for my bed
With festive fervour a flame in my head,
One wish I will wish as I wend my way
I wish you all....a joyful day!!
