ROCKS

The rocks stand in the water
Like a moonscape come to earth,
They stand there in defiance
As they're pounded by the surf.
An arrogance surrounds them
As waves brake on their sides,
Deep-rooted as the rocks themselves
Is their deep-seated pride.
Many are the ships of men
These rocks have brought to slaughter,
Allying with the mighty sea
To drag them 'neath the water.
Many are the sailors
Who with their ships have died,
Many are the widows
Who through lonely nights have cried.
The rocks though feel no pity
You will not hear them weep,
They have no sympathy for those
They've condemned to the deep.
They'll stand in blind indiff'rence
As they have for countless years,
Always apt to be the fate
Which every seaman fears.
