SUNDAY

What has Sunday come to be?
Lots of sports shows on T.V.,
The word of God we can ignore
But we must not miss the latest score.
The doors to God's house open wide
There's plenty places left inside,
The D.I.Y. store's open too
Has God lost out to B & Q?
Take a walk through any town
There's fewer stores with shutters down,
Shoppers running up their bills
Church bells replaced by ringing tills.
The church roof's sprung another leak,
The collection's down again this week,
The flock have switched from singing psalms
To a lunchtime drink at the Royal Arms.
Yet some traditions still remain
The Sunday dinner's still the same,
But Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Take second place to the Sunday roast.
What has Sunday come to be?
Lots of sports shows on T.V.,
The word of God we can ignore
But we must not miss the latest score.
