New Days [#1]

one day, on a day just like everyday, everyone decided that the
world was coming to an end very shortly, and the last ones standing
would go to heaven, as they'd be the ones who were always RIGHT in the
first place, and would be Favored by God. everyone decided this out on
their own, each mind blossoming in what seemed paradigm and genius to
the bearer. no one argued, because no one questioned anyone else, just
as you'd never question yourself without the hint of another's
doubt.
they gathered into divisions on the first day.
there were many, and they were uneven.
but the people went where they felt called, where their new Answer led
them.
There were the Pro-lifers, the Pro-choicers, the Democrats, the
Republicans, the Wealthy, the Cannibals, the Orange-skinned, the
Long-haired, the Aviators, the Can-Factory-Workers, the Volvo-drivers,
the Prostitutes, the Open-minded, the Short-statured.
there was a division for anyone and everyone. some were made up of only
2. but no one was afraid. they had faith that either they were blessed,
and numbers didnt matter, or they were cursed, and better slain,
anyhow. they laid down rules; gentlemanly codes of conduct in keeping
with hand-to-hand battle only, political correctness [essentially, God
could not be called simply "God", as that denoted a singularity, which
was, of course, the inevitable, but still possibly hurtful. however,
use of "my Version of God" was acceptable] and FIFA Fairplay. only once
the whistle blew could the savagery begin, lasting for two 45 minutes
halves. the victor would be determined by percentages lost, and at the
end of 90 minutes, the survivoring losers would promptly throw
themselves into the nearby volcano, dubbed "The Fiery Hole of the
Deserving Unrighteous".
that night, each division sang old-time spirituals to their own
respective idea of what they hoped God was. each fervently prayed that
their Version of God be stronger than their opponents' Versions. that
their "Version of God" would send their opponents to someplace
unpleasant; namely, their "Version of Hell".
and the evening and the morning where the first day.
