Inner Beauty

Crashing, lashing, growling, roaring, screaming. Why do people fear
the nature of earth's anger? Murderous. Some might say, powerful enough
to take the lives of innocent beings. Many are too taken up with the
disastrous effects of a storm. Who stops to recognise the beauty of a
power so great?
One night, after a peaceful day, the most magnificent monster of a
storm appeared from nowhere. There was tension in the air as black
clouds gathered, blocking off the sunlight inch by inch until the last
beam disappeared and the sky fell a leadened grey. There was a loud
rumbling falling all around us, as the humid air troubled our
breathing. We knew the storm was coming, this was its warning.
Families, couples and children were running off the beach, heading for
home. Safe, home. I ran, ran home too, but for different reasons. I
didn't want to be locked up in my own home like a prisoner, away from
the exciting experiences outside. I wanted to be part of the adventure,
take part in the ride.
As I ran, I felt cool drips of rain trickling down my face,
refreshing. It got heavier and heavier until my clothes could absorb no
more. Going home to get my coat would be pointless now, so I stopped
still and let the lashing rain fall around me.
The savage rain beat against my skin, pricking me like thousands of
needles. The thunder drew closer and closer and louder and louder as it
did so. Bolts of lightening hammered down to the ground, one at a time,
jabbing at the earth like needles being thrown at a pillow.
I made my way up to the top of the cliffs, fighting hard against the
wind. It was like a game, one step forward, two gusts back. The rain,
now, was like knives being thrown at my face at an incredible force. I
sat on the edge of the cliffs as the storm encircled me and swallowed
me into its rage. This, was the moment its beauty was revealed,
The sheets of lightning lit up the whole sky, turning it a brilliant
white. The thunder became rhythmic, clapping in time with the flashes
of lightning and the splashes of rain. The waves of the sea crashed
magnificently against the side of the cliffs producing a beautiful foam
that glistened, from the glow of the lightning, like tiny crystals. The
wind swept away my hair, making me feel sensations of freedom and
refreshness, that the cool, drips of rain also helped with. I watched
this wonderful dream in awe as I tried to be a part of this amazing
reality, which once seemed a dream. My face lit up as the bolts of
lightning continued to blast through the air, crashing to the ground in
such a delicate and majestic way it was indescribable.
After everlasting seeming moments of intense storm, it eventually died
down, leaving just a few drops of rain trickling down my nose,
releasing a cool sensation into my skin, which symbolised the heat of
the storm cooling down. The sound of the sea churning beneath me grew
softer and softer until the waters became calm and the glistening
crystals of froth become one with the ocean again. I looked up and saw
the black clouds separate to reveal something that was lost, and now
found. The beams of the sun stretched down from the sky, one by one,
until the whole sun was in view and the town lit up once again. I stood
at the edge of the cliff while looking out over the calm sea. The
sunlight reflected on the ripples, making it glisten. It was beautiful,
almost as beautiful as the dreamy intensity of the storm, but beautiful
in a different way. I could feel the freshness in the air, like nature
had released its anger and regained its peace. I felt warm and
refreshed inside. I looked up and saw the most magnificent rainbow you
ever saw, Bright and colourful.
It was an amazing experience.
