AWAKENING

From a room with a vista on Bird Street
A canopy of trees and wooden fences
Where robins sing of love and finer things
Finches chatter in hawthorn rambling
And blackbirds praise the dawn.
The gulls insane laughter rises
At planned raids made for that day
Delighting in their vengeful play
Of guano squared at windows.
Woodpeckers text message
As pigeons meander
Through sunbeams, crooning
A lust for each other.
She's awakened from warm slumber
By strokes as his hand wanders
Tongue and finger kisses
That shamelessly drift and linger
Each more ardent than the next
As he unzips her breath
Let's it fly on a sigh from lips.
Felt in a rounding of her hips
His ardour grips her fervour
Pitched just right to release her
And lead to beyond the birdsong.
Carried on wings from the room
With a view on Bird Street
Where lovers meet
While robins sing of finer things
And of sanctuary the room brings.
As a blackbird rings the dawn.
