POEM: Breaking Through.

Peeping in through the open door
The incandescent souls drift by
Warmth radiating from their words
That drift as mist to wreath their smiles.
Frozen in fear, not of them, but me
I summon the will to step into the glow.
To find they look straight through me.
Their group complete, auditions closed.
Their essence swirls in a display of grace
But their hearts are hollowed out inside
Their smiles are tainted by their success
Care, counterfeit playing with the mind.
They have their audience, hold the stage.
Nurturing others is not their design
They demolish the worth of hearts that sing
Ignoring those whose brows are not high
I do not fit in and I wander anew.
to find that place where kindness dwells.
Not an empty room filled with those
who tolerate the mold that fits them well.
