Dragon Diminished

In days of old
When knights were bold
And cement wasn’t around
A knight named Phil
Came up the hill
To find a tower - sound.
Being quite bold
And not very old
He decided to explore
Found maiden fair
With flaxen hair
Who thought ‘Here we go once more’
She said-I’d invite you up
To drink from my cup
But there’s a problem I fear
There are no stairs
And over there
A dragon sleeps, my dear!
Now knights are smart
And brave of heart
So he decided then and there
To save the maid
And stage a raid
Of the dragon’s lair!
He said- don’t despair!
I’ll be right there
And help you get right down
And when it’s done
We’ll walk in the sun
And you can share my crown.
The knight he was dashing
And took to smashing
The tower down stone by stone
And as it diminished
The dragon was finished
And could be heard to moan.
The maid was quite grateful
The dragon so hateful
Was buried under the stone
But what confused her
As well as amused her
Was how he did it alone!
Not wanting to brag
And seem a drag
He kept his secret close
But suffice it to say
At the end of the day
They had a dragon roast!
