Hindsight

There’s nothing comes to those who wait, it comes to those who work,
if you desire the best in life there is no time to shirk,
the clock begins its ticking as the midwife cuts the cord,
the race is on for those who would amass their shining hoard.
There’s no time for foolish play, there are lessons to be learned,
Those youths who waste their time in love will see their chances burned,
Don’t lie upon the riverbank and doze your life away,
Work and work and work and work, every hour, every day.
Those precious gems you crave cost money, and money must be earned,
Frivolity and idleness are habits to be spurned,
Reject them and in time for sure, you treasure shall amass,
But hindsight can be cruel my friend and at journey’s end, alas…
…you’ll have time enough and more to repent at your leisure,
Knowing that your lonely grave has no room for your treasure.
