My Words Will Not Be Tamed

My words will not be tamed.
As of late they want to touch you
Places that you never knew could feel before.
I’m drunk on electricity
Pleats, late nights, daydreaming
And I never want to wake.
Strip down to the heart of matter
Detach every last white petal
For the topaz nectar tear.
Words that make you feel life matters
More like bracing arms than letters
Or grind you into the dust.
No ‘should’, all ‘can’, no ‘must’.
Wearing my heart on my sleeve
Because everybody’s got one
Bankers, underneath their watch straps
Businesswomen’s, under shirt cuffs
Hang from black and balding hair ties
Tying them to girlhoods past.
My words want to decimate you
With that candle smoke-eyed beauty
Unique to copper-haired girls
Conjured up in fevered incense dreams.
Have you ever seen those plane trails X the sky
And thought “There but for this mortal cage go I”?
